Klaus Koska is being pursued. After witnessing a murder and discovering that no one in the ministry believes his story, he barricades himself in his apartment. The sudden appearance of a huge wooden crate, along with the clingy neighbor Marlene and the intrusive dental patient Hermann Schmidt, reinforces Koska’s belief that he is being targeted. However, he does not yet know that the Justice Minister, Lubitsch, is personally trying to eliminate him to declare himself dictator that same evening. Far too late, Koska realizes that the wooden crate in his apartment is meant to hide his corpse.
